#BlogAlong + My Top 5 Comfort Foods

Hello Hello,

It’s blog party time.. whooop dee dooo, and this month I am so excited because Upasna, Pooja and I are talking about FOOD!!

I love food, she loves food, we all love food.

This month’s theme is comfort food, soul-food, food that you eat while sitting in your pjs wrapped up in your blanket, food that reminds you of home, food that makes you sigh in food-gasmic delight…. food that makes you feel downright good!

For me, all food in itself is such a comfort. Actually, it won’t be a lie when I say that for me the fascination with food borders on the obsessive. I am one of those peeps who is ALWAYS thinking about food. What I am eating, what I am going to be eating, what others are eating… gahhhhh! My favorite activity on weekends is going grocery shopping at farmers markets! I can make everything about food. Childhood memories, vacation stories, people stories, weddings, visits to friends and family, days at work, outings to the park, day out gallivanting, gymming. People who know me well know this to be true of me, and love me for it. Hopefully. Or they are too sweet to say otherwise. Errrrr…

Anyhoo, the 3Girls want to share their list of the 5 favourite comfort foods with you, and hoping we get to know yours too. I compiled my list of 5 items and felt bad for the ones that didn’t make it in. Because I love all food equally. Except for karelas. eeyuck

I. Kadhi Chaawal: This used to be the first thing my mom would make for me whenever I came home for a vacation during my grad and post-grad. She used to make the most amazing pakoda kadhi and would always fry up some extra pakodas which I could and would hog on later. For me, the best comfort food will always be ma’s kadhi chaawal, served with her freshly whipped white (unsalted) butter and pakodas.

II. Dal Chaawal: I am such a Desi, because when I crave comfort food I crave dal and rice, maybe some onions and some pickle, and I’m sorted. Ahh, the slurpaliciousness of it all. I love rice, and I could eat it with anything, and a big bowl of dal-chaawal hits the right spot. Always. Remember my obsession with pahaadi dal recipes, here and here?

III. Seviyan: I debated a lot between halwa and seviyan. I could eat both by the bushel. However, when I was compiling this list, I was also making a batch of seviyan for breakfast, so knew which one was the winner. Sweet vermicelli roasted in ghee and cooked with water and sugar, mmm mmm mmm… I love it. I prefer the drier version to the milky one.

IV. Muffins: Blueberry, raspberry, chocolate chip, apple, carrot-cake, healthy, savoury… I want ’em all. I see a muffin and I Have To T.R.Y it!

V. Cheese

This is how I am with cheese…

‘Nuff said!

Turns out my love for food is surpassed by my love for writing and gushing about it. Methinks we should do a list of comfort drinks too. Remember when I wrote this love song to Hot Chocolate? Or devote a section only to kebabs, maybe. I could add SO much to such lists :D

Now come on over and tell me what floats your comfort boat… is it a big bowl of soup, creamy mac ‘n’ cheese, mom’s yummy chocolate cake, or a big pint of guinness, whatever be your fancy, I’am all yours, dear blogger.

3Girls and a #BlogAlong + My Travel Must-Packs

Hello Hello,

Welcome back to the monthly blog-party 3 Girls and a #BlogAlong. Last month, we threw our first party of the year, and couldn’t wait to get this months party started. And even though the plan was to get it rolling on the first Sunday as is planned for all of the #BlogAlong posts, it got delayed. But better late than never, this month we are talking about Travel Must-Packs,  the items that you need to, you have to, you must pack along with you when you take a trip.

All 3 of us love travel, and we love the excitement and happiness a holiday brings along with it. In fact, most of us are like that, aren’t we. It would be terribly boring if one didn’t get excited about a vacation, a holiday, the travel. Some of us plan months in advance, while some of us (read ME) do it a week or 2 before the holiday. Remember my plan to visit New Zealand? Some of us love the luxury while some of us are a tribe of backpackers. Some like it hot, some do not.

But the one thing that remains common for the travelling brethren is their list of things that they MUST-CARRY-OR-THE-VACATION-IS-INCOMPLETE, or simply put things that one always packs, the comfort list.

So we decided to share our lists with you all. And are hoping that you all join this party to share your travel must-haves, because it’s so much fun knowing that there are tons of us out there who prefer 10 books to 2 pairs of shoes in their bags (I actually pack them both, eeps), have 3 types of lip balms floating around in their handbag, or who have 5 different types of hand sanitisers lying around the house, coz they buy one for each vacation, and then forget about the old one lying around the house. Guilty!

So here’s my list of  Travel Must-Packs:

  1. Diary: As a kid, I used to write a diary. I would totally start entries with Dear Diary because I had read Betty Cooper do the same in Archies comics; and also because I had no clue how to start it off. Haha. The daily habit has now worn off, but what I always do is carry a diary around with me on my trips. Sometimes I am super religious about writing about my entire trip, at times, I manage a day or two. But nevertheless, the diary goes wherever I go.
  2. Pen: Don’t we all love stationery. I know women totally do. And wherever my diary goes, a pen is always around. Comes in very handy for diary-filling moments, making notes, and most importantly, filling in forms and stuff at airports. Heehee!blogalong_june2
  3. Reading material: ALWAYS! I am one of those freaks who carries her e-reader AND novels both.blogalong_june6
  4. Lip balm: What a necessity this one is. And am sure you all are nodding your heads.
  5. Hand cream: Same family as the lip balm. I get restless if my hands get too dry. MUST PACK!
  6. Hand sanitiser: I hate using public bathrooms. And carrying over my obsession with well-moisturized hands, sometimes I skip washing hands. Don’t judge me. Sometimes it’s too cold people. And sometimes I am too lazy :p That’s where our friendly, helpful hand sanitiser comes in handy.blogalong_june4
  7. Scarf: What else can I write about the utility about a scarf to a travelling woman, that hasn’t been written already. A face mask, shawl, head-cover, sarong, stole, a fan; Scarf-(wo)man to the rescue!
  8. Mint: Spearmint, peppermint, doublemint, I got it all. I even found this yummazing mint choc-chip icecream flavoured mint. Woohoo!
  9. Big bag of lipsticks: Lipsticks are my favorite make up item. And my lipstick collection travels with me. All of it. Si Senor. I ain’t your friendly light-weight packer, you must have guessed it by nowblogalong_june5
  10. Hairband(s): This is my accessory of choice when I want to brighten up my look. And my menage-a-hairbandois is my must-pack accessoryblogalong_june3

There you have it. My travel pack for you. As you can see, it’s predictable, feminine, and colorful (I hope). Now I want to know what’s in yours. Call me a curious cat.

So temme, what are your Travel Must-Packs?

Introducing 3Girls and a #BlogAlong + Dan Murhpys + The 1 year Blog-aversary

You know the feeling of time flying, well, that’s what I think I am a little guilty of. It’s been a year since I started sharing bits and pieces of my life with you all and I can’t believe how much fun it has been. So much fun that WordPress had to actually remind me ‘Hey Missie, it’s your one year anniversary with us, good job!‘ Yayie..

And what an opportune time it comes at because apart from all the fun stuff I keep wanting to do with the blog and hopefully I am doing, I am adding a new chapter to the Blogroll. A super-fun blog link up  party with my friends,  which has been in the plans for a while and is finally starting this month.

Introducing 3Girls and a #BlogAlong

Pooja from A Bit of This and a Lot of That, Upasna from Life On My Plate, and I make up the 3Girls and are the co-hosts of the #BlogAlong party and we couldn’t be more excited. insert twist and shake emoji

The #BlogAlong will be a monthly feature where we will be posting on the first Sunday of every month, on a common theme for that month, and inviting you all to share your stories too. The link up remains open from the first Sunday to the next Sunday. As this is the first post of our #Blogalong, we just wanted to celebrate the first month with a fun party. We want to know you party stories, party secrets, party recipes, party crazies. The theme this month is, simply put,  A Party. Tab’s on us. haha!

It’s A Party and everyone’s invited!

For this post, I thought I would take you on a trip with me to Dan Murphys: my one-stop shop for all things party liquor-ish. After all, what is a party without the all-important ingredient alcohol, madira, liquor, booze, you get the drift. Every month, Arjun Singh and I head over to the mecca of alcohol in Melbourne, AKA Dan Murphys, to stock up our bar supplies. We go with a set list for the month, and because the variety is so crazy, we end up a) picking up more than what we come for and b) planning our next months visit already. :D

The other thing about spirits; we love adding fun bottles to our collection. Our old Absolut bottles serve as water-bottles on our nightstands, empty wine bottles are used as water jugs around the house, and we have actually reused the Lucky Buddha beer bottles as flower vases.

So, here’s sharing My Wishlist at Dan Murphys. The bottles I need, I crave, I want, I desire. And of course the alcohol that comes along in them. That goes without saying ;)

1. Murrays Angry Man Pale Ale

Okay, not so much as the bottle but just the super fun logo. The kangaroo and the man boxing, and the word play in the brand tag line. Yeah, I am a fickle buyer. Get swept away by puns and boxing gloves on kangaroos. But this drink here could be a good way to get the pals into drinking game mode.

2. Creative Butterscotch Schnapps

We are talking butterscotch people. How yumm-azing does that sound? Imagine pouring this into a hot chocolate, or freshly brewed latte, and the kick it will give to an iced coffee or iced chocolate.  insert drooling emoji

3. Kah Skull Blanco/Reposado Tequila

How deliciously evil is that? Imagine serving tequila shots out of that sinister-ly gorgeous masterpiece. The party just went up 2 skull-sockets higher. (eek, bad attempt, I know)

 4. Grand Ridge Moonshine Dark Scotch Ale

Best sipped after dinner, this drink could just replace a post-dinner coffee or cigar. If you are the cigar sorts. Otherwise, when I hear Moonshine, for some reason I picture a barn, music from Footloose and lots of Dirty Dancing. see what I did there

 5. Kraken Rum

Unleash the Kraken. ‘Nuff said.

6. Mozart Chocolate Cream

A mixture of Belgian chocolate with bourbon vanilla, fresh cream, cocoa butter and cocoa solids, this, right here, is the chocolate liqueur my dreams are made of. I am just going to pour it over a scoop of chocolate ice cream and go crazy. And you are all invited to this choc-alicious party

7. Hpnotiq

Hpnotiq is a liqueur with a distinctive blue color and tropical fruit flavor. It’s made from premium vodka and cognac and fruit juices. Should be like a bubblegum party in your mouth, eh. And the pretty bottle just helps win this case so much. There is even a purple bottle, Hpnotiq Harmonie, that isn’t available in Australia now. But it’s okay. I can wait.

Phew. I think that’s enough of a wishlist for one day. There’s always more trips to Dan Murphys to add to the wishes. And the stacks.

So which one of these are you adding to your party shopping list? :)
